Elroy “EJ” Johnson IV divides his time between New Orleans and Dallas, maintaining strong ties to both regions. His paternal lineage traces back centuries in Texas, while his maternal side holds deep and rich history in Louisiana. EJ identifies as both an educator and a storyteller, driven by a passion for Black history and the preservation of Black narratives, particularly in the South with a focus on Louisiana. A graduate of The University of Alabama, EJ studied Journalism and Creative Media. His award-winning documentaries shed light on social issues affecting Black communities. Currently, he is developing a hybrid documentary about a 19th-century runaway slave who established a maroon colony near New Orleans.
In 2024, EJ was selected as a member of the Emerging Voices Cohort by the New Orleans Film Society, an initiative dedicated to supporting rising documentary filmmakers in South Louisiana.
